Ghana midfielder Isaac Cofie says joining Serie A debutants Carpi FC is the best decision as he seeks to get more active on the pitch.

The former Chievo player joined the White-and-Reds from Genoa on Monday for the 2015/2016 campaign.

Cofie was on the radar of several clubs after the 2014/2015 season, but chose to play for the newcomers.

“I feel so happy about my move to Carpi because it is an opportunity as well as responsibility to still play at the highest level in Italy. It is also an opportunity to keep me improving and maturing in the game,” Cofie told Goal.

Two seasons ago, Cofie was one of the consistent Ghanaian players abroad during his days at Chievo, but failed to secure a regular spot when he joined Genoa last season.

“I chose Carpi because they showed real interest in me and to be part of their project. I also feel I can compete for more playing time here as compared to the other clubs that showed interest in me.

“My expectation is to work hard and get more playing time, but the most important thing is to help Carpi stay in the Serie A. Avoiding relegation is the fundamental objective of the club,” he added.

Carpi have secured three promotions in four divisions in the last four seasons including a top-spot in the Serie B last season which ensured their qualification to the Italian top-flight.
