CHRAJ second most useless institution - Maurice Ampaw

Outspoken private legal practitioner, Maurice Ampaw has proclaimed the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice as next to the Council of State with regards to inefficiency.

‘When you take away the Council of State, which I have said is one of the useless institutions, CHRAJ follows currently,’ he stated.

Lawyer Maurice Ampaw expressed utter shock and disgust at the action of the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Joe Adjaho, for dismissing the motion filed by the minority to impeach the President over his acceptance of the Ford Expedition gift from a Burkinabe contractor.

According to him, the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice is not in the position to probe the controversial Ford gift given to President Mahama since a substantive CHRAJ boss has not been confirmed.

He added that there was no need for Parliament to revert to the Commission as they are currently under-resourced.

Lawyer Maurice Ampaw indicated that if the President was able to stamp his authority over the judiciary, which is the third arm of government, there was no way CHRAJ would be able to probe the controversial Ford gift saga efficiently.

On Thursday, Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho dismissed a motion filed by the Minority to initiate a probe into the Ford gift saga by Parliament stressing that the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice was the only body mandated to investigate matters of conflict of interest.

Parliament has hence returned to recess.
