Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has missed out on a chance to have a final go at the 2013 African Footballer of The Year Award as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) through its Technical and Development and Media Committees released the top three players shortlisted for the main gong at this year’s Awards Gala set to take place next week.
Former winners and Ivorian duo Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba makes the final shortlist of three and is joined by Nigeria’s Mikel Obi leaving out the Al-Ain striker who made the initial list of 10.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s U-20 bronze-winning squad member, striker Ebenezer Assifuah who emerged the top scorer at World Youth Championship in Turkey a couple of months ago will be in contention for the Most Promising Talent award together with Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheanacho and Saleh Gomaa of Egypt.
The award for the Player of the year (based in Africa) will be won by one of Sunday Mba of Nigeria or Egypt pair Mohammed Abou-Treika and Ahmed Fathy.
The Award winners will be announced on the 9th of January 2014 at the GLO-CAF Awards Gala to be held at the Eko Hotel & Suite in Lagos, Nigeria. Ex-Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh will anchor the event alongside South Africa’s Carol Tshabalala.
