Body found hanging in disputed Tafo cemetery

The naked body of an unidentified man has been found hanging from a tree at the disputed Tafo cemetery at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

There were bruises on the body, with blood oozing from parts of the legs and the male appendage.

A fight between the indigenes of the area and their predominantly Muslim neighbors (zongos) over the same cemetery where the body was found, sparked clashes a few months ago that led to the death of one person and the destruction of several properties including torching of houses and mosques.

Some mechanics and residents, who trooped to the scene to catch a glimpse of the deceased, told Class FM’s Hafiz Tijani that they suspect it was ritual murder.

They, therefore, called on the police to investigate the incident. “We were working this morning when someone raised an alarm. When we went there, we saw the dead body hanging. From observation, you could tell that someone killed him, took some blood from his body, and hanged him there. If he had hanged himself, he would have struggled and his tongue would have hanged out of his mouth. He would also have exuded excrement from his anal orifice,” an eyewitness told Class FM News.

“It is the Sakawa boys (ritualists) who might have done this. It is sad and surprising. We work here at Suame close to the cemetery and we do not see these things. The police should investigate the death,” another eyewitness appealed.
