Some Black Stars players have rebuffed the findings of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry over the perceived leadership inadequacy of Asamoah Gyan in the Black Stars.

The three-member commission led by Justice Senyo Dzamefe have recommended that the Al Ain ace undergoes some form of leadership training to address their view of Gyan’s leadership frailties.

The commission went on to suggest that the 29-year-old be removed as captain of the Black Stars if he fails to prove himself in future assignments.

It is, however, clear that the commission failed to consider the thoughts of Gyan’s international playmates who have dismissed the perception of the body by insisting the former Sunderland ace is a ‘great leader’.

“He is a great leader to be with, comfortable to be with, fun to be with and had all the qualities to be a great leader,” Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu told Metro TV.

“We are living in a world where everyone had his own opinion. I don’t want to go further into the statement that came out but what I know is that Asamoah Gyan is a great leader whom I have been with for more than eight years in the national team.

“We are there with him and we know how we are coping with him and how well he is doing for us so I don’t want to go into the White Paper thing.”

Goalkeeper Fatau Dauda also in the interview said: “There are no problems with Asamoah Gyan.

“He motivates us in camp to the extent that we miss him whenever he is not around.”

Italy-based Afriyie Acquah also added: “Nobody is perfect, but Asamoah Gyan is a good leader.

“He does everything with us to be united and we are a united team.”

The reactions of some of the Black Stars players show clearly the commission did not seek the input of players in reaching its conclusion on Asamoah Gyan.

The Black Stars captain is being singled out for blame for the revolt that hit the team’s camp during the 2014 World Cup over delayed payment of appearance fee as government officials kept reneging on their several promise to make the payments to the players.
