Mr. Solomon Owusu, a Ghanaian US-based Mining Engineer, has called on Ghanaians to be audacious in the fight against illegal small scale mining in the country.

This, he said was the only way the country would subjugate the canker, to enjoy the benefits of its mineral resources.

Addressing journalists at a press conference in Accra, Mr Owusu emphasised on the need for small scale miners to embrace better mining practices in their modus operandi, adding that, the law should deal with anyone who would be found guilty in their operations.

Mr. Owusu, who is also the former Deputy Secretary of NPP California Chapter, said he was collaborating with the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation to ensure that lost lands and polluted water bodies could be regained.

“We are blessed with mineral resources like gold, diamond, bauxite and oil; hence, we should be able to develop this country with all these resources at our disposal” he said.

He reiterated the unflinching role of chiefs in the ongoing fight against “galamsey”, saying that, they were entrusted by the people to protect the land from destruction and should act as such.

“We need to rise up and fight against this menace by being able act as citizens and not spectators” the mining engineer said.

He also advised the youth to strive hard by putting the Government on its toes, to ensure that they were accountable to the people, adding that, the decisions it made today would determine their well-being in the future.
