Baba Rahman charged to impress Chelsea new boss

Advisor of Baba Abdul Rahman, Kurt Okraku, says the Ghana defender will need to fight to impress the incoming Chelsea manager to remain at the club.

The left-back will be working with a new manager following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho on Thursday.

Dutchman Guus Hiddink has flown into London to hold talks with the top hierarchy at Chelsea over the prospect of taking over the side on interim basis.

Hiddink however says he would require a thorough update on the team, including player assessments before making his decision.

Speaking to De Telegraaf, the 69-year-old said: “I want as much information as possible. Chelsea are in a bad situation and there are reasons for that.

“I want to gain some good insights on that before I make my decision.

“Whether or not I'm visiting their next match depends on my first conversation. Then I'll decide if I should stay in London longer.”

Hiddinks message has sounded a stern warning to existing players at Chelsea, especially the ones struggling to gain regular first team action like Baba Rahman.

And advisor of the Ghana defender admits his client would need to double up his efforts to win over the confidence of the incoming boss.

“Baba just like any other player at Chelsea will need to work hard to impress the new manager,” Kurt Okraku told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“It doesn’t matter that the new coach wasn’t the one to have signed Baba and therefore he is on his way out.

“Does that mean all the other players who were signed by Mourinho are also leaving the club?

“Clearly, there will be a new boss and for you to win the confidence of the new coach, ones needs to back up with their performances to win over his confidence.”

Baba Rahman joined Chelsea at the start of the season from German club Augsburg for a fee speculated to be over €21m.

Many have however criticized this move as a late improvisation of Jose Mourinho after missing out on his prime summer target John Stones.

Rahman has made only nine appearances for Chelsea in all competitions since joining the Blues as he struggles to knock off the ever-reliable Cezar Azpilicueta for the regular left-back spot.
