The Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association has named former Accra Hearts of Oak administrative manager, Ashford Tetteh Oku the new Premier League Board Chairman.

Ashford Tetteh Oku who has served as vice chairman of the body will replace the longest-serving chairman of the Premier League Board (PLB), Mr Welbeck Yaw Abra-Appiah, who communicated his decision to drop his tools at the end of last season after a 10-year illustrious reign at the helm of Ghana’s top-flight league.

Mr Abra-Appiah believed he had paid his dues to Ghana Football and that it was time to bow out and hand over the baton to the younger generation to continue.

The retired Bank Manager, football administrator and businessman believe after chalking many successes in the Premier League under his watch, there cannot be a better time to call it a day than now when the cheers are loudest.

The GhanaFootball Association requested for a recommendation and Abra Appiah chose his vice chairman Tetteh Oku, a well-decorated football administrator in the country who has undergone several professional courses in football management.

GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi confirmed the appointment of Tetteh Oku to an Accra-based radio station, Happy FM.

He said: “The Executive Committee has already appointed Tetteh Oku as the new PLB chairman.”

Elated Abra Appiah who served as head of the PLB for a decade, congratulated Tetteh Oku and thanked the GFA and the Exco members for accepting his recommendation.

He also called on Mr. Oku not to let him down for he has confidence in his abilities.

“…Congratulations to our new PLB chairman Mr. Ashford T. Oku. I am extremely happy the GFA president and Exco accepted my recommendation in appointing him as such.

“I sincerely pray that the good Lord will grant him wisdom and knowledge in all his endeavours.

“T. T, be diplomatic and very fair in all your dealings. Please don’t let me down for I have total confidence in you.”

Ashford first appointment onto the Premier League Board was in 2005, before he was named as the Vice Chairman of Abra-Appiah in 2011.
