AshantiGold have cancelled their trip to Freetown to play Sierra Leone in an international friendly.

The Ghanaian champions were scheduled to leave Accra on Friday but the organizers failed to pay for the contingent’s air tickets and accommodation.

AshGold said they were not in the position to foot the bills for the exhibition match to celebrate Sierra Leone’s clearance to host international football matches after the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the country free from Ebola.

The West African country last hosted an international fixture on home soil on 19 July 2014 when the Leone Stars defeated Seychelles in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Freetown.

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) imposed the ban 15 months ago to stop the spread of the virus which affected 8,704 people in Sierra Leone, claiming 3,589 lives.
