Appoint literates as party agents - Rev Angloo

Reverend Felix Angloo, the Nzema East Chairman of the local Council of Churches, has appealed to political parties to choose literates as their polling agents.

He said such agents should be educated on the electoral processes and provided with adequate logistics to enable them observe proceedings and avoid cheating.

Rev Angloo said this when the United Civil Society Organization of Nzema Development (UCSOND), a non-governmental organization, in collaboration with STAR-Ghana, launched a programme towards holding a peaceful and successful election in the country.

The project dubbed "UCSOND /STAR-Ghana election 2016 Project" was under the theme: "Using Youth, Women and PWDs agenda for increased Participation and Inclusiveness for Election 2016."

Rev Angloo said the country's record of having peaceful elections since 1992 should not be tarnished during the November elections.

Mr Wisdom Quaiku, UCSOND Executive Director, said by the launch, STAR-Ghana has made a wake-up call to all Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to ensure success in the coming elections.

He said STAR-Ghana is funding similar projects in Ahanta West, Ellembele and Jomoro Districts.

As part of the programme there will be demonstration exercise for selected polling stations and schools on practical voting processes, he said.

Others initiatives include participating in radio programmes on election processes, providing voice for the marginalized, and creating opportunity for political aspirants and other duty bearers to respond to their concerns.

Mr Quaiku expressed the hope that the project will improve relationships and responsiveness among successful candidates and their electorates.

He said a successful and peaceful election in the country is a shared responsibility of all Ghanaians.
