Ama Benyiwa Doe swimming in cash?

Starts Storey Building!

Just eight months into the administration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Madam Ama Benyiwa Doe, the National Women’s Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has started with the construction of a storey building!

The hard-charging Benyiwa Doe, who made a name for herself on various radio networks in the run-up to election 2008 as an avowed critic of the government of the New Patriotic Party over all manner of issues including alleged corruption and the alleged acquisition of wealth by government officials, has so far torn down her semi- detached building at East Legon and has commenced with building of the storey building on the same land!

A visit to the site recently by scouts of the Daily Searchlight revealed that work was going on, with work almost completed on the bare cement block structure of the ground floor. In conversation with Benyiwa Doe’s neighbours, they said that initially the building was a semi detached house, and was occupied by the vociferous NDC strong woman opposite the White Dental Clinic at East Legon.

They said that soon after Madam Benyiwa Doe was appointed as the Central Regional minister, the building was torn down, and work began on the construction of the storey building.“Work has been moving on very quickly since it started. In a few months they are almost complete with the ground floor. It promises to be quite a grandiose affair compared to what it is coming to replace.” The neighbor said. Yesterday Madam Benyiwa Doe confirmed that indeed she is putting up a storey building. She said that even though she has not received any public contract, she has received her ex-gratia, and that is what she is using to put up the new house.

“Tell Ken Kuranchie that I am building indeed,” Madam Benyiwa Doe insisted. In the run-up to election 2008, Madam Benyiwa Doe, as the National Women’s Organizer of the NDC, was one of the influential voices who led the attacks on the members of the then ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) over their alleged opulent lifestyle and the acquisition of wealth.

Operating from various radio networks with her high-pitched voice, Madam Benyiwa Doe made it her job to give the NPP all manner of hell, chief among them constant and consistent allegations that leading members of the NPP were corrupt!

She was often to be heard on radio declaiming on matters like the Hotel Kufuor saga. She also led campaigns to malign the NPP for allegedly dealing in and profiting from drug dealing. Already her neighbours are raising eyebrows over her sudden grandiose ambitions of creating a storey building and have started wondering where all the funds for the structure is coming from, in the light of the fact that President Atta Mills is yet to pay any of his ministerial appointees.
