Persons with albinism are accusing the government of failing to safeguard their rights in the country.

According to the group, some albinos have been murdered for ritual purposes but the government has done little to curb the practice.

Ahead of the international Albinism Awareness Day which falls on June 13th, the group addressed the media on some challenges they face.

Adams Abdul Wahab, Advocacy officer for the group said the discrimination and attacks against albinos in the country must stop.

“Persons with albinism are adopted, discriminated against or in some instances being used for rituals but the government of Ghana has not done anything to address this issue.”

According to Wahab, a 19-year-old student quit school after bullying and threats meted out to the boy by his mates in school.

Wahab called on the government to do more to protect albinos from attacks and discrimination.
