Akonnor will be Kotoko's perfect Fabin replacement - Osei

Former Asante Kotoko boss Michael Osei believes ex-Ghana skipper Charles 'CK' Akonnor will make a good coach for the club.

The Porcupine Warriors are in the search for a new coach following the recent resignation of Samuel Paa Kwasi Fabin.

Media rumours say Akonnor is the front-runner for the job, while former Aduana Stars coach Yusif Abubakar has also been mentioned as a possible choice.

“He [Akonnor] has been a player before and he is now in the coaching job," Osei told Starr Sports.

"He is doing very well too, so he will be a perfect replacement for Paa Kwesi Fabin.

“What I know as a former player and a coach is that players do respect coaches who have played before.

"So what I will say is that if he is given the job, it will be great for Kotoko.

"I wish him all the best."

Akonnor, one-time skipper of German side VfL Wolfsburg, has coached the likes of Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC and most recently Ashanti Gold, where a fallout with the club's management led to their separation in June.

Last week, media speculations said the 44-year-old had agreed on a two-year deal with the Porcupine Warriors, but the reports were quickly rubbished by club communications director Samuel Sarfo Duku.

Kotoko are the most successful club in the history of the Ghana Premier League, having won the title on 23 occasions.

According to the club's management, the identity of their new man will officially be announced soon.
