Afriwave saga: Dissolve NCA board – IMANI

Policy think-tank IMANI Ghana wants President John Mahama to dissolve the board of the National Communications Authority (NCA) over a contract awarded to Afriwave.

The award-winning think-tank alleges that the NCA did not do due diligence in the award of the contract to Afriwave telecom to operate an Interconnect Clearinghouse.

The NCA in December, 2014 set up a selection committee to evaluate applications from companies to bid for the establishment of the clearing service for the telecommunication industry.

Afriwave which is a Ghanaian based company was awarded a licence by the NCA to operate the clearing service following recommendations by the eight member evaluation committee chaired by Albert E. Enninful.

But Executive Director of Imani, Franklin Cudjoe says a leaked document in their possession shows inconsistencies in the scores awarded Afriwave at the evaluation stage.

William Tevie, the Director General of the NCA maintains that the process leading up to the award of the contract had been fair and transparent.

However, Imani insists the NCA board must be dissolved and the process reinstituted.

Its Executive Director, Cudjoe, also dismissed speculations that one of the applicants, Suba Infosolutions leaked documents to IMANI to denigrate Afriwave and NCA.

“We got it from a member of the committee itself and I am not ready to disclose the name and it is not fake,” Cudjoe said.
