Adomah eyeing ‘Vardy-like’ transition

The Middlesbrough attacker wants to become the next player to have a taste of the English topflight after days in the lower leagues

Ghana winger Albert Adomah has set his sights on following in the footsteps of England and Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy.

Having joined the Foxes from non-league side Fleetwood Town in 2012, Vardy has taken the 2015-16 English Premier League season by storm, scoring 19 goals so far and currently ranked top scorer of the competition.

Adomah, who plays for Championship side Middlesbrough, wants to become the next star to make the magical transition, having spent his playing days this far in the English lower leagues.

“My ambition is to play in the Premier League, so hopefully, I can fulfil that with Middlesbrough,” Adomah was quoted as saying by Winner Sports.

“Players like Vardy and [Rickie] Lambert have gone from non-league to compete at the top level. It shows that anything is possible.

“I used to play for a local amateur side when I was 16. I started from the 10th team and worked my way up to the first.

“But then, it was my aim just to make it as a professional, so when I signed for Barnet, I achieved that. I’ve taken it from there and played for Ghana at the World Cup. It’s been amazing.”

Adomah played for lower sides Harrow Borough, Barnet and Bristol City before joining second tier outfit Middlesbrough, who currently sit third on the Championship league table.

The 28-year-old represented Ghana at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations as well as the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.
