Seventy-two (72) New Patriotic Party (NPP) members in the Atwima Nwabiagya constituency in the Ashanti Region have announced their defection to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The defectors claim their move has been motivated by the several developmental projects that have been done by the District Chief Executive of the area, Nana Asare Bediako, and his commitment to duty which has impacted positively on the lives of the people.

Speaking to Kasapa News, spokesperson for the group, Dominic Boateng said after they compared the high rate of development in the area in a relatively short time under the DCE’s watch, as against the eight years under the NPP administration, they’ve realized the need to support Hon. Dominic Boateng to move Atwima Nwabiagya to a higher level.

“The DCE has been exceptionally good ever since he took office. He has awarded scholarships to several students in communities around. He is always willing to support anyone who seeks help from him, irrespective of the person’s political affiliation. He does all these kindness from his own resources. Undoubtedly this is a man we must give our full support to. We have found a new home in the NDC party.”

Dominic Boateng further claimed that their exit from the party was spurred by the high level of discrimination in the NPP which made some of them always unfairly treated.

“We have severally complained about the selectivity in this party, but our protest has fallen on deaf ears. We have finally advised ourselves, and the decision is that we wholeheartedly joining the NDC, we are very happy with the move we’ve made.”
