48 Apps qualify for next stage of MTN Apps Challenge

Out of some 95 apps that were submitted for the 2018 MTN Apps Challenge, the telecommunication company has approved 48 for the next level.

The Apps challenge, which is an annual event seeks to bring together developers, animators and tech enthusiasts to create products which would bring advancement to the tech scene in Ghana. It also creates the opportunity for developers to market their products on MTN platforms across the globe.

Last year, a new category to recognize the best female developer was introduced to encourage more female participation in the contest.

Prizes for overall winners of the competition range from 15,000 GHC to 20,000 GHC and winners will be announced at an event organized by MTN Ghana on June 6.

The five categories to be awarded prizes this year are Internet of Things (IoTs), Mobile Apps, Animated Videos, Best Female Project Developer and the KatAppult Initiative.

Sources at MTN Ghana say the App challenge, since 2017, has received a lot of entry from women, with about eight women already qualifying to the final stage.

The contest was opened to local individuals and app organizations and was launched in Kumasi, Tamale, Cape Coast and Accra.

It will run for seven weeks, before submitted apps are judged and chosen based on their uniqueness, relevance and ability to penetrate the Ghanaian market.

This year’s challenge is under the theme: ‘Digital Innovation: A Tool for Youth Empowerment’.
