34,000 palm seedlings distributed to farmers in Kadjebi

More than 500 farmers have benefited from the project

Mr Asiedu Maxwell, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kadjebi, said the Assembly, in partnership with Volta Red Palm Production, has distributed 34,000 palm seedlings to farmers in the District.

He said more than 500 farmers have benefited from the project, which formed part of Government's flagship programme; Planting for Food and Jobs.

"Under Planting for Food and Jobs, the District Assembly has benefited, through the Central Government, an amount of Gh¢253,862,88 and this is the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) support to the Government, which comes as a budgetary support," he said.

Mr Asiedu said this during the Assembly's press encounter, an initiative by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information.

It was to encourage the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to interact with the media to account for their stewardship.

The DCE said the Assembly was partnering many local industries under the One-District-One-Factory initiative and ready to partner more for the socioeconomic development of the District.

He said the Assembly had also introduced a new ginger variety, which would be distributed to the farmers on trial basis and later be produced on large scale to supply to the Region and beyond.

Mr Asiedu said 21 different development projects in health, education, sanitation, and roads, among others, were in various stages of completion, aimed at enhancing the lives of the people.

The DCE said all government projects started by the previous administration had been completed by the current one with all projects debts duly paid.

He said the Assembly had also constructed Fire Station and ambulance bay to enhance the work of personnel of the Service and drilled 25 boreholes to improve the water situation in the District.

The forum also formed part of government’s agenda to promote openness, transparency, accountability and participation of citizens and interest groups such as the media.
