2016 elections will go into run-off – Kwasi Amakye

Political scientist Kwasi Amakye has said the 2016 elections is likely to go into a run-off.

In his view, the ruling National Democratic Congress and main opposition New Patriotic Party are likely to retain their traditional support during the polls.

Ghana goes to the polls in November 2016. The exercise will elect a President and members of parliament for the next four years. The NPP has already unveiled their campaign team while the ruling party is yet to hint at it.

Speaking to Nii Arday Clegg on the Morning Starr Monday, the political science lecturer said he is looking forward to a very competitive campaign ahead of the polls.

“Elections in Africa are very complex, they are not necessarily issues based. They are very complex. I expect the NDC to keep their support base meaning they are going to have 40% plus, and I expect the NPP to keep their core support meaning that they going to have 40% plus.

"I look forward to seeing the elections going into a second round, it is not going to be easy for any person who comes up as the winner,” he said.
