Ghana has been named the inaugural beneficiary of France's newly launched National Health Compact, following high-level bilateral talks in Paris between President John Dramani Mahama and French President Emmanuel Macron.

President Mahama shared the news on his Facebook page on April 8, 2026, expressing gratitude for the recognition.

"Today’s meetings with President Emmanuel Macron and the President of the French Senate further demonstrate the shared values of our two countries. Ghana is delighted to be selected as the first beneficiary of France’s health compact", he wrote.

President Macron invites President Mahama to France for high-level talks

The bilateral discussions covered trade, cooperation, regional and global security, and the wider implications of international conflicts.

The two leaders also explored collaborative opportunities in agriculture to enhance food security and promote year-round farming, artificial intelligence (AI) development, maternal health initiatives, and the Accra–Kumasi Expressway project.

President Mahama was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including foreign affairs minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, National Security Advisor, Prosper Bani, Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide Joyce Mogtari, and Ghana’s Ambassador to France Mavis Frimpong.

The leaders also discussed expanding France’s long-standing support to Ghana through the Agence Française de Développement (AFD).
