Supreme court resumes hearing of Woyome case today

The Supreme Court will today, Thursday, December 1 resume hearing of an application filed by businessman Alfred Woyome to stay proceedings over the GHS51.2million judgment debt paid to the former and being retrieved by the state.

The NDC financier was expected to be orally cross examined November 24, 2017, by Mr. Amidu over the GH?51million he received as judgement debt from the government after the latter was given the green light to do so by the Supreme Court on November 16, 2016.

But two motions filed by Woyome at the Supreme Court, Wednesday, November 23, 2016, provoked the suspension of the cross examination, with the Court expected to continue hearing today Wednesday, November 1, 2016.

Woyome had prayed the Supreme Court to review the ruling of the Court presided over by Justice Anim Yeboah on November 16, 2016.

His second application was a request for a stay of proceedings to enable the Court to determine the motion for review.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood has refused a plea by a private citizen who petitioned her office to have the court proceedings telecast live in the interest of the nation.

Her office through the Judicial Secretary Justice Alex Poku-Acheampong, said the request is impossible because “is not the normal practice by the Judiciary”.
