Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has described the ruling National Democratic Congress’ (NDC’s) ‘Transforming Lives’ campaign message as mere propaganda.

Contrary to the NDC’s slogan, he stated that Ghanaians are facing severe economic problems currently, noting that the NDC’s message is a hoax so the people should reject it.

He said he always laughs when he hears the leadership of the NDC boasting that it is transforming lives and transforming Ghana. “The NDC doesn’t understand the meaning of transformation,” he taunted.

Dr. Bawumia said “…..in fact, what lives are they transforming?” he queried, “When there is hardship all over.”

Speaking at the campaign launch of the Nhyiaeso Constituency of the NPP at Patase in Kumasi on Sunday, Dr. Bawumia, economic expert, noted that the NDC was lying just to win undeserved votes in the upcoming elections.

According to him, the NDC had destroyed the sound economy that it inherited from the NPP in 2009, saying that the party (NDC) had demonstrated that it could not manage the economy.

The NPP vice presidential candidate said his party assumed political power in 2001 with a GDP growth of 3.7 percent but lifted it to 9.1 percent before it left office in 2009, lamenting the fact that the NDC, with oil money, had reduced the figure to 3.2 percent in seven-and-a-half years.

He said the cedi is wobbling under the watch of the current administration; unemployment rate had reached 48 percent; interest rate on loans had skyrocketed, among other economic indicators.

Dr. Bawumia said under the NDC government Ghanaians had been experiencing protracted power crisis (dumsor) for almost five years, adding that jobs are collapsing and electricity bill had increased more than rent. “There is no hope for the citizenry,” he bemoaned.

He stated that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP would win the next elections and let Ghanaians experience the real meaning of change, adding that the NDCs propaganda change would be a thing of the past.

Dr. Bawumia stated that the private sector, which had been ignored by the NDC government, would experience massive support by an NPP administration, adding that the tribulations confronting the state would end once and for all.

The campaign launch, which was dubbed ‘People’s Forum,’ was aired live on Ashh FM and was graced by Kennedy Kankam, the NPP parliamentary candidate for Nhyiaeso and George Kofi Adjei aka Geokad, the party’s constituency chairman.
