Mills receives EOCO's interim report on payment of judgement debt

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Thursday submitted an interim report to President John Evans Atta Mills on the controversial payment of judgment debt to businessman Mr Alfred Agebesi Woyome.

The President immediately asked the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Benjamin Kunbuor, to study the report and advice the government on it. President Mills thanked EOCO and said it was unfortunate that some people failed to cooperate with it during its investigations to unearth the truth.

He asked EOCO to let “The people of Ghana know what you have found because people have their different versions but there can be only one version” and added that it was the actions of past and present officials that were responsible for the payment of the judgment debt.

The President said 52 million Ghana cedis was paid to Mr Woyome while 38 million Euros was paid to Waterville.

The payment was as a result of an alleged abrogation of a contract by the previous Kufuor's Administration for the rehabilitation of the Accra Sports Stadium, El Wak Stadium, both in Accra, and the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi for the 2008 African Cup of Nations.
