A disturbing case has emerged from Bulemi in the Weija Gbawe Municipality, where a family of three has reportedly been living under extremely unhealthy conditions for over five years.

According to a report by 3news.com on March 21, 2026, the family residing in an uncompleted building has been using urine and faecal matter in their daily food preparation.

The mother, identified as Leticia Okine, is said to mix urine and faeces with meals, claiming it enhances both taste and health benefits.

She reportedly stated that bottles of urine are stored for cooking and even used as pomade, while faecal matter is preserved and added to foods such as corn dough for banku.

“All the bottles here contain urine we will need for cooking and also use as pomade. We also use the urine to take out any chemical in pure water before we drink.”

“We have only one bottle of faeces for now, we will use it to mix our corn dough for our banku. We put them (faeces and urine) in the bottle and seal them so that no scent will come out,” Leticia said.

A neighbour, Ato Quansah, who also serves as Chairman of the local Landlords Association, confirmed that the family has lived in the area for a long time.

“This family has been here for very long time with their father, but I think the father left when the mother started developing some abnormal behavior,” he indicated.

He noted that the children’s father reportedly left the home after the woman began exhibiting what he described as abnormal behaviour.

Quansah called on the relevant authorities to come to their aid.
