There was near pandemonium and confusion at the Annual Global African Investment Forum held in Westminster, Central London after a heated exchange between Ghana’s President John Mahama and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo degenerated into open insults.This was due to General Obasanjo openly accusing the Ghanaian president and his government of blackmailing and collecting bribes from Nigerian businessmen in Ghana, buying numerous properties in Nigeria and South Africa and financially contributing 12 million dollars to Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign last year. This infuriated President Mahama who lost his temper and pointing his finger, called General Obasanjo an ” idiot” and a “silly buffoon”.It took other ministers present as well as Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to calm tempers and usher President Mahama to a nearby room. The forum, which takes place from 1st to 3rd December is attended by African Heads of States, Ministers, Private equity firms and investors to discuss opportunities for investment and development in African Economies.

NPP enjoys seeing big crowds that really mean nothing. The REGIONAL rallies entails the bussing of supporters from all the constituencies in the region to one place for a rally so it should not surprise anybody with the crowds. It doesn't show the strength of the party in each individual constituency. On the other hand, the president is busily touring all the constituencies once again to whip up support at the base. The crowds at each of the constituencies testify the strength of the NDC in those areas. The NPP will continue living in fools paradise only to see the reality after votes are cast on 7th December. They are only preparing grounds to shout 'RIIGGING' after their defeat because they are basking in the deception of rented crowds. That is what they did in 2008, and it seems they have not learnt any lessons.

THE GAMBIA MASSACRE
n July 2005, Gambian authorities massacred 50 West African immigrants. 44 of whom were Ghanaians. They were first arrested, tortured, robbed and illegally detained. Then they were divided into smaller groups, took to a killing site in western Gambia and killed with machetes, axes, knives and sticks. They were all poor men migrating to Europe in search of greener pastures.
At that time, Nana Akufo Addo was Ghana’s Foreign Minister. It was his duty to protect and assist Ghana’s citizens abroad. But he didn’t care. Instead of ensuring that justice is done for his fellow Ghanaians, Akufo Addo used lies and delay tactics in support of the Gambian authorities’ attempt to cover up the brutal killings.Today this guy is calling somebody incompetent.
Akufo Addo supported the Gambian cover-up.

At the time of the massacre, NPP was Ghana’s ruling party and Nana Akufo Addo was country’s Foreign Minister. It was Akufo Addo’s job to protect and support the Ghanaians abroad. But he didn’t care about the Ghanaian economic migrants. Instead of ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice, he did exactly the opposite. Akufo Addo helped Gambian authorities to cover up the killings.
On July 24th, eight of the bodies were accidently discovered by the locals. The news spread and the massacre quickly became an international issue. Under huge pressure, Nana Akufo Addo flew with a delegation to the Gambia. After three days of doing nothing and a closed door meeting with the country’s president, Akufo Addo announced that “the Gambian government was providing support to the investigations to solve the case”. Ghana’s Foreign Minister praised Gambian authorities for making available to his delegation “all materials relevant for the elucidation of the matter”. “At the appropriate time we shall inform the public about the outcome of these investigations”, Akufo Addo added.
“The appropriate time” never came. Akufo Addo’s promises soon proved to be a pack of lies.
Eight months after the massacre, on 14 March 2006, Akufo Addo called for “patience in the period leading to a concrete investigations and resolution of the death of Ghanaians in The Gambia”. Akufo Addo cowardly announced that investigations were proving “rather difficult”, “due to the nature of the incidents and the surrounding circumstances”.
NPP – no investigation, no report, no compensation
The NPP government, did not see fit to bring the massacre to international awareness during the African Union Summit held in Gambia in July 2006, or even boycott the event in protest.
In December 2006, one year and a half after the massacre, the Africa Office of the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) accused Akufo Addo of covering up the killings: “Nothing has been released from the Ghanaian government on the matter, and the public has been left in the dark.”
Akufo Addo’s total failure as foreign minister put the NPP Government in an embarrassing position. During a party’s assembly in January 2007, President John Kufour publicly asked Akufo Addo about the state of investigations. Akufo Addo responded with more delay tactics: “Nobody is running away from the matter. The alleged killings of Ghanaians in the Gambia will be properly accounted for”.
Two years after the massacre, in July 2007, when John Kufour removed Nana Akufo Addo from office, no investigation was undertaken, there was no report on the massacre, and the grieving families of victims were desperate.
It was not before NPP and Nana Akufo Addo lost power that a real investigation was conducted. In August 2009, a joint UN and ECOWAS investigative team found the Gambian government liable for the mass murder of the 44 Ghanaians in 2005. The findings also established that members of the Gambian security service took active part in the massacre. The bodies were exhumed and returned to Ghana.
