A short, permanently angry and very divisive character would have closed Ghana's borders because of Ebola - the most wrong approach that would have worsened the epidemic. That is why I have always suggested that after 2020 we should amend our constitution to allow JM to have limitless terms. After JM we could revert to the status quo.

NPP wished Ghanaians had but one head so they could chop it with a single strike of the sword. Hypocritical institutions.

The second chamber of Parliament is a very bad idea, infact it is a no, no. We need to be reducing the number of legislators and actually capping the number of legislators, instead of increasing it.
The exalted technocrats and statesmen and women, who we are being made to understand would form the second chamber of Parliament would do well to get into the actual chamber and avail their technocracy and statemanship to impact on the laws, statutes and acts in one piece, in the House to ensure equity.
We need to reduce significantly the number of legislators from the current 275 to anywhere between 100 and 150 and cap it at that figure without any chances of it ever going up again.
All appointments of the heads of key constitutional bodies and governance institutions should automatically be members of the opposition who have exhibited and would exhibit good judgment and fairness, honesty, integrity, principles and exemplary leadership, failure of which they should be removed with the approval of two-thirds majority of parliament.
With this we should be going somewhere as a first step.

IEA & Co., should stop generalizing the problems of the nation; NDC's "buga-buga" tactics coupled with economic mismanagement corruption and thievery is what's killing Ghana. NDC's negative attitude towards the improvement and achievements of individuals or prominent citizens or businesses have caused the nation a great deal of harm. NDC sees everything wrong with people esp. with different opinions on major national issues as enemies.
When a political group of people accuse everyone as being corrupt only to turn around and indulge in the very same corrupt practises they shouted about, and steal the ballot to come into power, the adverse results is what we're witnessing. The "Sasabonsam" party should be booted out of office before it's too late!

I'm all for the Emile Short recommendations for amendments to the 1992 Constitution. This constitution for all intents and purposes was written to serve the whims and caprices of one man, Rawlings. This was achieved through Rawlings hand-picked Constituent Assembly members, some of whom were hairdressers and butchers but each one was a Rawlings admirer and sympathizer. It's not surprising that none of the presidents after him saw the need for constitutional reforms because the constitution gives them excessive powers and immunity from prosecution like Rawlings. If our democracy is a"government of the people, by the people and for the people'' then the people must be actively involved in running their government. City mayors, district, municipal and metropolitan chief executives must be elected and changed by the people througj the ballot box to make them accountable to the people. The council of state ought to be scrapped because they serve no useful purpose. The hiring of the IGP must be taken away from the president and given to the police college or whatever body of high ranking police officers. State institutions must be truly independent, independent and safeguarded from government intervention.

In an ideal situation, that is what is supposed to be but the question will be, would any one not belonging to the ruling party appointed in executive capacity shed their affiliation and allegeance to their party and dance to the tune of the government/pary in power? The Ghanaian electorates are blind in allegeance, they wish only for their party in government to do things for them to be proud of and use them as evidence of thir party's performance in goverment. So to this extent, if people who are deemed competent are appointed to occupy certain key executive positions, they tend to put the breaks on developmental projects with the view to sabottaging rather than advancing the agenda of the ruling government. Let's continue the debate along those lines and with time, we shall reap the benefis.

Winner takes all is not the problem! There are four important amendments that need to be made to the constitution: 1. Parliament must approve all government expenditure and acquisition of loan with 2/3rd majority of votes and not by simple majority. The 2/3rd majority will force different parties to work together to reach a compromise. 2. Assets of all government appointees must be declared and justified to the public. 3. All District and Metropolitan Chief Executives must be elected. 4. The Revenue Department must be mandated to track political party campaign funding. This will end the the practice of the ruling government stealing from government chest to fund their parties.

We have a parliamentary system and or a winner takes all system because we copied it from our slave masters. If and when we get to a point where our mental faculties will not fail us but be gracious to us to think we could look to existing system of governance from communism, socialism, the British parliamentary system to the US system and see if a blend and or weaving good articles from some of them could form a basis for our own system which could work well for Ghana. After all we are a people who continue to worship tribe and political party and not country.
The people of America with brains and through their founding fathers chose to adopt a system that would serve the ideals that drove them away from the British system some had lived under. What is it that Ghanaians want do; we even know?
