When Kwaku Baako informed us about the atrocities of Kwesi Pratt during PNDC Regime, some of us did not believe until the truth was confirmed during the NRC. Kwesi Pratt is the most dangerous Journalist Ghana had ever have, he had the gut to recommend his fellow journalists to be executed by PNDC. Pratt even recommended Baako to be killed by the regime, thank God Baako was instead touchered violently and severely but his life was spared. This is what Kwesi Pratt can do. Now Pratt is a secret agent to NDC and US Embassy in Ghana. May God forgive Pratt and spare him the untold evils that will come upon him and his generations. The souls of those journalist killed through Pratt's recommendations to PNDC will never forgive Pratt. Now Pratt has the guts to take Diplomatic Passport and smuggled his weak-headed children to work at the Ministries under Mills NDC, may God forgive Pratt and his dependance and spare them of the evils ahead of them...

Mahama does not even understand that the reason the bond was oversubscribed was because of the high abnormal, unprecedented interest offered to subscribers for the bond. Which investor in his right mind, will not take advantage of such a crazy offer; simply because the NDC government is desperate for cash after blowing all the previous loans in various looting and sharing schemes under his presidency. Only an ignorant, idiot will believe and agree with the crap speech about investor confidence. He definitely did not fool anyone at the UN. Only Ghanaians are fooled by his wishy washy words and propaganda.

I have my own enviable integrity and live on my own sweat. You hate me for my intelligence. The fact that I have supported the presidency of Mahama does not mean I should keep mute on his shortcomings. If you are a man enough, go ahead and expose me. Or you think I fear threats from your useless syndicate? Stupid!

Monah is not serious. There was nothing wrong with what the president said. Do not criticize for the sake of it Mornah? Your finger is in Mahama's mouth so if you hit him he will bite it off, abi?

You can hardly get that rate of return any where in the especially if the currency concerned is in dollars or similar so investors are doubling their returns by taking on the euro bond. It would have been cheaper to borrow from a bank but the fact they did not shows that they couldn't do it as no one has confidence in them

Our leaders must understand some basic economics before they open their mouths. What Monah said is absolutely right. Over-subscription of the bond by investors does not mean confidence in the economy. The question that the president should have asked was the yield at which the bond was floated. An investor sitting with funds where he can only invest at a yield of 1%to 3% in other markets will jump for the Ghana bond going for 8%. After all, if the investor discounts 200 basis point for risk of default of payment as it happened in Argentina, he still goes home 200 basis points better than he could get anywhere else.As the saying goes "who does not want to transact with a fool" Everybody wants to? So before the President opened his mouth to say what he said, he should have indicated the yield offered the investors and compared it with what is currently available on the wider world market .He would then have realized that the investors were flocking to our bond because we were offering them an insanely good deal which they could hardly afford to ignore based on what is pertaining in the world market for bonds. So Mr president, it is not confidence but rather an insanely good deal that is at work.

The lucrativeness of the offer doesn't dismiss the confidence factor!
I agree with you that the 8% yield is in the nature of making an offer that cannot be refused. Indeed, at the today's going rate in the market, the 8% yield seems most outrageous! To have to find yourself in such uneasy circumstances that you have to make such an outlandish offer so as to attract buyers is in indication of the weakness of your position. Your economy is, in other words, very weak!!!
Still, the investors are clamouring for the bond on account of not ONLY its high yield. They must believe that at the end of the day they will realise the gains that the bond holds out for them. This is where the confidence issue kicks in! No matter the high yield, no rational investor will buy the bond if he/she doesn't harbour 'some' belief that the bond will deliver the high yield!
Having said all that, I still do recognise that the 8% yield on the bond must be seen more as a measure of the weak state of our economy today and the desperation on the part of our policy makers than as a measure of confidence in the economy!

Simple economics - nobody will invest his money in an institution in which he has no confidence. Other factors may be at play but what is paramount is CONFIDENCE.
