Ejisu by-election: ‘We're Yaa Asantewaa’s descendants, we don't fear blood’ – Aduomi

The independent candidate in the Ejisu parliamentary by-election on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, has warned against any attempts to rig the election.

After completing his campaign activities on Sunday, April 28, 2024, Aduomi, a former Member of Parliament for the Ejisu Constituency under the New Patriotic Party (NPP), spoke to the media. He stated that he is aware of plans by some individuals to rig the election and incite violence.

He emphasised that the people of Ejisu, who are descendants of the legendary queen mother Yaa Asantewaa, are not afraid of violence.

"No one can bring violence to this Zongo. They have brought people here, there are places where they intend to rig the election, steal ballot boxes, and all that... not in this Zongo, there are men here. Anybody who wants to come here and cause trouble would have himself to blame. I have said this before, this is Yaa Asantewaa’s town. Yaa Asantewaa’s descendants don’t fear blood, we don’t fear blood," he said in Twi.

He continued, "Let the voting be clean. In this era, is it not embarrassing to rig an election for someone? Let the people vote for the person they want to lead them."

Aduomi also denied claims by prominent NPP figures, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, that voting for him would benefit the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The former NPP MP for Ejisu explained that NDC members support him because of his previous track record in office. He expressed that his political party affiliation is not his priority, and his main goal is to serve the people of Ejisu.
