He sits and reads the game when it is going on; makes the necessary substitutions; decides the position each player plays; studies the opponent's style of play; predicts what will happen with the pattern of play the opponent is adopting; notices the weak positions in the opponent's game and alerts his players (if you are a player, it is not your responsibility to notice that a particular position in the opponent's half is "broken", it's the coach's responsibility); reminds you from time to time that you should delay or play it fast because time is on your side or not on your side; and so on and so so.

A coach is like a cook or chef. He/she can blend the ingredients well well. When I went to Ghana recently, a lady served me with fufu and light soup. Come and see. I finished everything and even broke the "asanka". My nose was leaking too bad at that time, and my motorway was wet and shinning! Give the same set of ingredients to another lady -- she will cook garbage!!!

You have been given the chance time and time again to handle some of our national teams like the local Black Stars and the U-20 and U-17 teams. And you failed on all occasions miserably. Duncan please don't bring club politics and animosities between the two arch rivals of Ghana soccer into our national team. If Duncan is sensible then he will try and concentrate on his club overtaking Kotoko to resuscitate his career. What surprises me is that you appear to be the top champion and great defender of the Black Stars coach. You never let anybody who attacks him or criticises him for his tactics go scot free. Like a tiger pouncing on a prey, you go for their throats and attack them in no uncertain terms. But it appears you have take an exception to this. The question is would you have the same response if that stupid comment was made by any other person other than by someone associated with your club? What you have to ask yourself is what is the motivation behind Duncan's foolish statement? Perhaps it will make you see clearly. At the moment it looks like you will like to be more loyal to your club rather than to our national teams. But remember the affairs and success of our national teams bring Ghnaians together whilst those of clubs tend to divide us because of the intense rivalries especially between Hearts and Kotoko. Sorry, Pow i still stand by statement: Duncan covets Appiah's job. In fact, it appears he has got hidden agenda. Is it because of how much money he makes coaching the B/Stars or what? It beats my understanding why and how he Duncan came out to say that in the first place as a coach of his caliber. Having said that, I kind of suspect something might have happened regarding player call up within any of the junior national teams. Remember Opeele has coached Kotoko before likewise Fabin but either way Duncan has to apologize for those remarks. Honestly speaking, which Hearts player as at now is ready for Black Stars call? None, so it can't be the B/Stars coaches. This is my thinking, I might be wrong but I believe time will tell.

The interim BS coaching job was given to Sir Jones Attuquayefio, and what did he do when we were to play Nigerian Green Eagles? He fielded the Hearts team as the BS, and my , oh my .... the Kanus, the Taribo Wests, the Jayjay Okochas, couldnt believe they were playing a 'club' side. Such perfect display of soccer artistry by Ghanaians to hold the dreaded Green Eagles to a draw. Even then, Ghanaians (esp Kotoko supporters) criticized.
We should care less about which affiliations a Black Stars coach has/ had with a local club and rather root for him to deliver successfully. Coach Duncan, if we went your route, we wouldn't have any local coaches for our various national teams. Did I read that you once coached the Starlets??? Any positive results there? Hmmmm...

Who cares if he leaves the Ghana Coaches Assn? the issue at stake is that there seemed to be some rampant appointment of coaches who had had some relationship with kotoko in the past and this has affected the use of hearts players. it may not be deliberate though but the coaches in question have to acted over board. i remember some long time ago coach malik jabir struggled to mention the name ablade kumah on national tv when he took the blackstars to australia for a series of friendlies. i think that was 1995. he kept saying this hearts player until the host mentioned the name to him. that was sad because even in that tournament ablade kumah was voted the best player.

however, those who are refering to he using 11 hearts players had forgotten that he did that because certain foreign baed player such as stephen baidoo, sam johnson, kuffour, mark edusei, arhinful, CK, etc had grown wings, contended that positions in the blackstars were thiers refused to take the coaches instructions, were feeling tooo big and eventually humbled by liberia in accra by 3:1. and i remember george oppong weah telling the whole world that ghanaian footballers were arrogant. it was after that embarrasssing results that sir cecil decided to turn to players who will take his instructions and more importantly could achieve the needed cohesion within a short time. i remember baffoe djan was in that team although he wasnot a hearts player. what coach attuquafio failed to do in that match was that he might have forgotten that edmund copson was behind most of the dramatic victories hearts recorded in 1998 2003 but unfortunately he made the young man warmed up through out without bringing him on.
