Kwesi Pratt Jnr, Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper and an Nkrumalist, has advocated for the Western Region to have its fair share of the national cake.

Kwesi Pratt said this during the launch of NkrumahFest 2026 on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra.

This year’s NkrumahFest will be celebrated under the theme, "Nkrumah @ 117: Celebrating His Enduring Legacy - Africa Must Unite or Perish", at Nkroful in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region from September 14 to September 21, 2026.

He said the Western Region had a lot of natural resources, but the region was underdeveloped.

“I want to advocate strongly today that the people of the Western Region must not be neglected in the provision of the natural resources to enable them to educate themselves and to feed themselves,” he said.

He added that the people of the Western Region deserved better due to their contribution to the country’s resources.

“I'm very deeply worried that the people of Western Region also deserve a fair share of the national cake. Why? They gave us Dr Kwame Nkrumah, not just Kwame Nkrumah but Paa Grant and so many leaders of this country. Most of the resources we explored and gave to the capitalists for free come from the Western Region. They deserve better,” he stated.

Kwesi Pratt further took the opportunity to call on the government not to sell the Volta Aluminium Company, VALCO, but to revive it to create jobs for Ghanaians.

Also speaking at the event, the Chief of Nkroful, Nana Kwasi Kutuah V, called on the good people of Ghana to visit Nkroful in September to support the development of Nkroful.

He commended Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, for instituting NkrumahFest and opening the path to Nkroful and the entire Western Region.

The official launch of NkrumahFest 2026 was graced by the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga; the two children of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Samiah Yaba Nkrumah and Sekou Nkrumah; His Excellency King Kwasi Kyei Dankwa, Ghana's Special Envoy to the Caribbean; Professor Addai Mensah; Black Rasta; Captain Smart; Johnny Hughes; a representative of the Ghana National Gas Company; staff of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources; Ellembelle DCE Joseph Agyekum; MP for Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira, Kofi Arko Nokoe; MP for Amenfi East, Nicholas Amankwah; among others.
