Tetrefu Health Centre receives facelift

Air Liquid France, producers of oxygen has rehabilitated the Reproductive and Child Health Unit of the Tetrefu Health Centre in the Bosomtwe District.

The company, together with its sister organizations, Forum des Organization de Solidarite International Issue des Migrations (FORIM), and Yvelines Corporation for International Development (YCID), also inaugurated two female wards and provided computers and other logistics to the Health Centre.

The projects were facilitated by the Sankofa Franco Ghanaian Friendship Association (SFGFA) at a total cost of £25,000.

Dr Moses Barima Djimatey, District Director of Health Services, speaking at the ceremony expressed concern about the increasing rate of teenage pregnancies in the District.

He said maternal mortality also increased from two in 2017 to eight in 2018 and attributed this to increase in HIV infections, non-attendance of antenatal clinics by pregnant women, eclampsia, pregnancy-induced hypertension and high rate of teenage pregnancies.

Dr Djimatey stressed the need for community members to unite and offer the needed support to health workers to provide quality health care delivery in the area.

He called on parents to take keen interest in the growth and development as well as the welfare of their children, especially the teenage girls to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

Dr Djimatey advised pregnant women to attend antenatal clinic and seek medical help promptly to prevent complications.

Mr. Alfred Ohene Akonor, president of SFGFA in Ghana, said the facility, which was constructed about 20 years ago, had not seen any renovation works.

He said the refurbishment together with the expansion of the facility would help promote quality healthcare delivery to the people in the community and its surrounding villages.

Mr. Joseph Kwasi Asuming, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bosomtwe, advised health officials to have good human relations with their patients.

He gave the assurance that roads in the community would soon be rehabilitated.

Nana Osei Daah, Saamanhene Dabehene and Chief of Konkromase, said the facility would be well maintained for it to benefit future generations.
