Dr.Linda Vanotoo in fact clearly depict the problem of favouritism and discrimination in the Ghana Health Service.She is a good example of a square peg in a round hole.She is a beneficiary of the cronyism,nepotism and other dubious,illicit act in the Ghana Health Service like sex for job that allow some persons without the requisite competence and knowledge to occupy positions they clearly do not merit.She was in the Western Region for over 3 decades dating back in the 80's and indeed rose to become the Regional Director of Health Services,a position she held for years.Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital,one of the most corrupt,defunct and useless regional facilities is her brain child.Linda Vanotoo institutionalized corruption,illegalities in the said facility and promoted tribalism and discrimination for her selfish agenda.Her glaring incompetence will always be exposed where ever she is particularly if she lacks supportive backroom staff.Even in the Western Region it was the same story of high maternal mortality and acute perennial shortage of blood.As the Western Regional Health Director it was known to many that she couldn't carry out many task and have to rely on people like Obiri Yeboah to do her job.What is however amazing about Vanotoo is that she is heartless,callous,vindictive,morbidly jealous,greedy,self centered,recklessly competitive,highly intolerant and extremely power drunk.To say she is a good model for young and up-coming practitioners is an understatement and sometimes one wonders how such characters are able to rise so high in the midst of better qualified and competent people.Her approach to problem solving as a health manager is a suspect particularly being a public health expert so to speak.Linda Vanotoo lassitude,idiosyncratic and mediocre tendencies allowed the likes of Paul Ntodi to dictate to her,the consequence being the corruption and total anarchy at Effia Nkwanta hospital.Ntodi, the Medical Superintendent actually run the regional hospital as if it was his private hospital and supervised over mass illegalities including illicit procurement,diversion of funds and logistics.Even at some point tankers and tipper tracks building his private residence were fueled free by the hospital.The hospital kitchen was given to his wife without competitive bidding.Doctors refused work on daily basis in the regional hospital and there was an instance where a father who lost a child at the casualty emergency nearly suit the hospital because the night doctor was not at post.Vanotoo never saw this but rather descended heavily on very hard working ones clearly on tribal grounds with incredible levels of ethnic prejudice and hate that defy logic.She is well known for loose ethnocentric comments such as 'you northerners','you ewes' depicting the sort of mentality she has.It was not for nothing she found it extremely hard moving into a heterogeneous society like Accra irrespective of her Ga roots because of tribal stereotype other than a feeling of insufficiency.Both administratively and technically,one can safely conclude base on the evidence on the ground that she certainly can't solve basic problems she is confronted with as a regional health head.As a Public Health Expert what is she doing about the problem of primary prevention since post partum hemorrhage is associated with known risk factors if blood transfusion at tertiary level is a big problem.What modalities is she putting in place especially at Antenatal level and during labour to prevent PPH?This is clearly a problem of health system failure with inadequate maternal health services including health education at a community level.Why can't the Regional Health Director think outside the box with innovations like Donation for cash/material targeting peri-urban and rural poor dwellers who will be more than willing to donate with incentives in place?Even a well planned blood screening and donation exercise targeting the Zongos within Accra can ensure well stocked blood banks.However the most important question still stands as to why sound primary preventive strategies targeting known risk factors through maternal health education and promotional services can't be put in place to prevent Post Partum Hemorrhage that will not necessitate blood transfusion tapping on her background as a public health expert with years of experience?The puzzle is Vanotoo herself.

In this day and age why should someone die due to bleeding after child birth ? The answer is a well-stocked blood bank which is achievable -- GREEDY BASTARDS !

This is too bad. Why should blood recruitment be reserved for only those two hospitals? Are those two hospitals and the NBS recruiting enough blood for distribution to the rest of the hospitals?
I think the subregions and the Districts may be doing better. Its a shame to hear this happening in Accra.
