The stories written is no new news, it has been repeated again and again. Let's move move forward. Where are we now, let's deal with them .What is the mental health board doing now . Renowned Psychiatrist J.B Asare, during his active term of practise what has changed?
Psychiatrist Akwasi comes on the air to announce cleaning the streets of Accra of the mentally disadvantage by May 2014,send them to PICU and treat them within 2-3months and send them back to their communities. The people are still there. He has added stigma elimination and isolation to the campaign on mental health and acceptance.
Fortunately Ghanaians are not interested in mental health issues, instead they are sympathetic about them ,and wish they could do something for the sufferers .

The stigma attached to mental illness in our community is so huge and everlasting.
The pastors and fetish priests are milking the system, preying on their vulnerabilities, sleeping with the women and inventing miracle cures.
When all is said an done, the verbal diarhoea on our aiwaves demonstrates that a vast majority of our people have varying degrees of mental health issues from Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Depresion, anxiety, osessive compusive disorder, grandiose ideas, etc.
Trigerring events include bereavement, pre-natal and post-natal depression, alzheimers, trauma, menopause, male menopause and other debilitating problems.
Time to examine the package of support and therapies available.

Easy. Entice Ghanaian mental health professionals in the UK and USA etc. with good investment in mental health infrastructure IN GHANA and good incentives that will enable them come home to work. any good employment package such as good accommodation, pay, transport etc. will be easily recouped by the government not having to pay to train them as they 'a ready made workforce' who are highly trained at the cost of about £50,000.00 (pounds sterling)each. I am a case in point with 16 years of up-to-date and practical work experience and trained to my eyeballs in the UK. and i am a baby amongst some of my Ghanaian colleagues who are far more experienced.

Its very pathetic working at mental health facilities without least motivation but you are expected to deliver beyond expectation.
Mental health board as at now is not inaugurated to direct and administrate the work in this sector. Simply no one cares.
I suggest strongly that the mental health worker and psychiatric nurses are short supply and need to be augmented with 1st degree psychology graduates. Just about a month inservice training for them and they can be posted to most of the health facilities in the country.
These graduates have no other job and are moving from office to office even though they were taught much about mental health issues and can deliver exceedingly.
