Funny people in funny country. Very laudable to make public health an autonomous institution and not a subset of medicine. The question is there are not serious people at all and only say these things in public. So many publi ... read full comment
Funny people in funny country. Very laudable to make public health an autonomous institution and not a subset of medicine. The question is there are not serious people at all and only say these things in public. So many public health professionals wishing to come home to Ghana and help are turned back by these very institutions. The Ghana health service, Legon school of public health, KNUST school of public health, UDS school of medicine, Ho University of health and allied sciences are all in the habit of driving away qualified professionals from Europe and North America back.
You apply to these institutions and it can take close to 2 years and not even acknowledgement. Go to Ghana health service human resources with public health degree and they will ask you if are a nurse or medical doctor, if not there is no place for you. They do all they can to frustrate you to go away. One time ministry of health put up a message on its website calling Ghanaian professionals abroad to come home and help. Provided a link you could upload your information and background. It was a fake linked that you try thousand times and your information will never be uploaded. Visited Ghana ad went to the ministry of health and questioned about that linked and was told it is not active. When I told the officer my background, she asked 'are you a nurse or doctor?' I said no I am a public health professional with bachelors and graduate degrees in public health administration and health promotion. Her response 'you should have been a nurse or doctor for 10 years before doing those degrees. We have no jobs for you. You can go and teach".
This very person will go and stand in public and say Ghanaians abroad don't want to come home and help.

For export . Those we have are under utilise.
They will be very frustrated unless they go out.
Some few are monopolising PH. They will have no job in Ghana.
