If you are realy who you describe yourself to be, then i will expect much more circumspection from you regarding what you have just said. What discussions have have held with the health authorities in the region and the Techiman municipality in particular? You are simply creating fear and panic which could lead to residents leaving the community for their 'safety'.

You did not give reason why you think Techiman is at risk of the outbreak of the Ebola virus. The reason you cited is not enough to justify that Techiman is at risk. Except to give a lengthy tutorial of what Ebola is all about. The content does not depict what the Topic says. Otherwise its an educative piece.

Please stop spreading false rumors about this disease. It is not airborn. You dont get it from overcrowded places. It is not like a normal flu.

Dear Dennis,
There is no statement in this article that this is an airborne disease. However this is a highly contagious infection. It means that jist a few viral particles may cause a disease. It can be very effectively transmitted via direct contact (skin to skin, skin to clothes) with an infected object.

@ Dennis, the author does not postulate that such mode of transmission of the Ebola virus is "air born'" In fact, the author, from my understanding, suggests that the virus is contracted via human to human upon contact with an infected persons bodily fluids (I.e. saliva, sweat, blood, tears, semen, urine) and feces. I believe you are referencing the author's indication of "coughing and sneezing" as the basis for your argument and one could easily misunderstand this to mean air born. However, the author is referring to droplets which is another mode of transmission for this particular pathogen/virus. Thus saliva droplets are excreted when someone sneezes or coughs and if the host is infected, others would inhale the particles making them infected also. Please keep in mind that EV is highly contagious and that congested areas should be avoided areas known to have an epidemic of EVD victims. God bless and be safe!

I share the same sentiments as the writer. Ebola Virus Diseases is deadly and calls for collaborative efforts of all including politicians because of its high fatality rate of up to 90% Ghana is at risk because of international trade and travel, and their signs and symptoms are similar as that of malaria hence the need to equip our hospitals and health facilities to be appropriately diagnose and manage the cases. We are sitting on time bomb and the time to act is now!!!

Not only in techiman but across the entire country. We have to put in place measures on our own as a people and not leave it to the health workers alone.

I didn't think the skin had to be broken or mucous membranes for transmission of the virus to occur. Also, the virus can be transmitted via the infected person's sweat.

Thank you Daniel for your piece. Ghana is located right in the middle of the currently affected countries. Ghanaians must be vigilant and serious this Ebola crisis, or risk becoming victims. Regardless of how it is transmitted, Ebola has reached cities and death is likely once it is contracted. The long incubation period can also make people careless, so exercise caution and let us sensible about this crisis. It could be transmitted to Ghana whether via Techiman or Kotoka Airport. Let us behave like responsible Ghanaians and save ourselves.
