The illiteracy is encouraged because people in Ghana believe that if they can speak Twi, then they can go everywhere and be accepted. They frown on other languages severely, including English to the point that some taxi drivers don't even understand stop. Anybody with black skin must speak or understand Twi. Until that mentality is done away with, our performance internationally as literates will dwindle. Foreigners, especially blacks, do get embarrassed by this norm in Ghana especially our big cities.

Our sister's aptitude of becoming gold diggers is one of the main reasons of the high prevalence of the disease. The point of language is right, however, tribal markings on the cheeks of every child, makes then look like the Akan tribe. That is very disgraceful if not shameful.

In the first paragraph of this article, the writer said the prevalence rate in the Upper East Region in 2012 was 2.1% but in paragrah 2, the figure is 3.8%, please check that.
Secondly what he claimed to be 2.1% is rather the prevalence among pregnant women and he is rather comparing it to the prevalence of 1.37% among the general populace in Ghana.
The prevalence among pregnant women in Ghana is 2.1% and it same as that of the Upper East Region.
Please let us get our figures right and understand the indicators or else we will be making the wrong conclusions.

There are multiple factors that lead to this disease, amongst them illitracy or lack of information and knowledge, povety is the biggest enemy as those who cannot afford for their daily bread, will succum to any temptations for sex in other to survive.Used some of the oil and gas money to roll out a welfare system and encourange the poor to work by training them to fend for themselves, then we will be reducing the infection rate. A word to the wise?
