The problem about Ghana is not the passage and inauguration of bills or policies but the implementation of these bills or policies. I hope this Mental Health Board will not a mirage but vibrant one.

I COMMEND THE GOVERNMENT OF GHANA FOR THE INAUGURATION OF THE MENTAL HEALTH BOARD. THIS IS LONG OVERDUE AND I CALL UPON GHANAIANS BOTH AT HOME AND ABROAD THE SUPPORT THE EFFORTS OF THE NEW MENTAL HEALTH WITH FUNDS AND OTHER RESOURCES. This is laudable. Now putting it into reality/practice void of bureaucracy is what is yet to be experienced .Psychiatry is changing fast, and in the new future there may not be places for psychiatrist, psychotherapy, psychologist and CBT have proved useful. Psychiatric treatment have no evidence based, except for labeling and stigmatizing using DSM to make stigmatizing official, then turn round again to say , people should not be stigmatized, they give the name.
Psychiatrist are fast fading, because of the benefits of alternative therapies , Psychotherapy, CBT and psychology. These can easily be delivered at places of sufferers choice and in a more humane way.Psychotic medications are mostly a try and error business, some of them induce mental illness and promote suicide ideas. What Ghana needs is more trained psychiatric nurses with training in talking therapy. The days of visiting patient and giving injection/depot are gone. l pray the regional boards district, and zonal boards are set ASP.In their oath, they should swear no bureaucracy. WATCHING, hope is not be an avenue for professionals to cash in the name of the mental disorder persons. per deims, meetings upon meetings and the patients rights and suffering remain same. l think a system be put in place to measure progress every three months

This is not passionate to the government and the journalist, they did it because WHO has asked that it must be done. SHAME reporting inadequate and poor. How many members inaugurated and swore in we don't know likewise their names. Were they ashamed to associate themselves with the program? How do we remove stigma, respect people human right only by preaching and at the same time practicing the opposite. SAD
