We look at old age as a crime forgetting that old age is a process so no doubt everybody will get old someday.Nobody remains 20 or 30 forever.Just as you are called youngman now you will someday be called oldman or old lady. For people to understand old age as something that is gracious and not a crime we need to do more talking about such topics on social media. We need to educate our people that if mishap happens in any family it is coming from the innocent old lady.We need to encourage our health personnel to go into Geriatic medicine and our Nurses need to be trained about Geriatics. This is a prblem that needs to be tackled by the whole society. In all developed nations you have free access to public transport when you show your govt issued ID.We really need to more and I know we can do better than where we are now. This is food for thought.Just think about this.We donot have to think old age is just for some people but rather everybody will get there someday.

Ghana seems to be one of the few countries where mandatory retirement age age is still 60 years. All my classmates who are still in Ghana are retired, and those living abroad are still working and are still good at their jobs. Sixty years, is the new 50.
What is happening in Ghana is that the retirement policy is creating a large pool of retired people who cannot survive on the meagre fixed retirement income. This situation is creating a new class of poor people who are going to need more health care, because early retirement is going to cause their health to deteriorate.
In the 21St century,if the Medical Schools in Ghana do not have Gerontology or Geriatrics as specializations, then we are way far behind. I was shocked to realize recently that there are no Long Term Care facilities in Ghana and that Social Workers have no training in elderly care. There are a lot of people living abroad who are struggling to manage care for elderly relatives in Ghana. This is happening because the health care system in Ghana has overlooked the elderly. If I should accept the wrong assumption that "Old age is a disease", then those afflicted should be given the care they need.

If you donot want to be called an old man or old lady someday just pray to die early.Afterall old age is a process.Everybody will get there sometime some day unless you leave this planet earth early. As we all know old age come with it's own health problems and disabilities. So really need to consider the aged in budget proposals. We need to brainstorm always to come up pragmatic ideas to make it a bit easy on the aged and on families. To the current young ones please learn from the mistakes of your fathers, fore fathers, mothers and grand inorder not to repeat their mistakes.Always prepare for the future. Our men use their strong years to marry 2,3,4 etc.women please let us reconsider.Let us also practice family planning please. It is about time.Donot leave problems behind waiting for your children to come and solve them for you.Thanks.
