The waterbodies which provide water for the sanitation are dangerously polluted and chemically poisoned.
What we see in the Eastern Region can't be different from what is happening across the country called Ghana.

What about KORLE BU MORTUARY. KORLE-BU MORTUARY HAS BEEN IN THE CURRENT STATE SINCE 1979. I VISITED THE MORTUARY FOR A FAMILY MEMBERS POST MORTEM , AS EVERY MEMBER OF FAMILY WAS SCARED OF GOING INTO A MORGUE. THE CURRENT STATE WAS EXACTLY THE SAME IN 1979. THE ENTIRE PLACE WAS ROTTEN. THERE WERE 3 STEELED WAWA COFFINS WITH BODIES LEAKING BODILY FLUID. APPARENTLY INSTRUCTIONS AT THE TIME FROM TOP WAS NOT TO OPEN COFFINS BUT KEEP THEM IN FRIDGE. COFFIN COULDNT ENTER THE FRIDGE SO LEFT OUTSIDE TO ROT. AND SAME KORLE BU MORTUARY IS OPEN. IT NEEDS TO CLOSE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND A NEW EFFICIENT MORGUE BUILT TO ACCOMODATE THE HOSPITAL AND GENERAL PUBLIC. PARLIAMENT NEEDS TO PASS A LAW WHERE CORPSE ARE ONLY ALLOWED 2WEEKS IN GOVERNMENT MORTUARIES, AFTER THE 2 WEEKS A PENALTY IMPOSED TILL 3 WEEK. IF NOT COLLECTED THE EPA should give a mass burial. FAMILIES WHO WANT TO KEEP BODIES TILL JESUS RETURNS SHOULD USE TRANSITIONS OR OTHER PRIVATE MORTUARIES. THE WASTE WATER AND BODY PARTS FROM KORLE BU MORTUARY END UP IN THE KORLE LAGOON WHERE OTHERS FISH TO SELL TO THE PUBLIC TO CONSUME.

Surprising that the EPA and AMA plus management of korle bu hospital are mute on the subject of state of the mortuary and shocking conditions, pathologist, mortuary staff and administration staff of that colonial mortuary built by our great Kwame Nkrumah who brought contractors from Hungaria, russia, uk etc to expand the old hospital. Hence building the maternity, surgical, childrens and medical block plus moving the very small first korle bu mortuary which was next to the medical block where the doctors offices were. Nkrumah improved the old morgue into a new modified state of the art mortuary which is what we currently have for the public. Since its building l think in 1960 its never seen any regular service and maintenance over the years. It had water filteration systems and efficient disposal of body parts which were cremated on the hospital premises. Its not worth even a million dollars a month for any pathologist or mortuary attendant to work there. I fully respect all the staff who do a great service to the dead and families to gi e their dead some dignity in their last days. Upon all the difficulties the staff face they still go home to eat, some times e en eat on mortuary premises. Pls let us start a go fund me so all residents in accra to come together to raise money to rebuild a new morgue. The rich will got to transitions but what about the poor families.close all morgue and build new ƙþ
