The simplest way to tell someone who hasn’t been to school before about colon and rectal cancer is to mention Kooko. The hemorrhoids that grow outside the anus can grow inside the rectum and the colon leading to the large intestine. Untreated over many years, they become cancerous. It means that the same bleeding sores outside are inside too, rupturing the tissues. Cancer undergoes metastasis or travels to any part of the body it wants so the Kooko Cancer can spread to the Liver, Breasts, Vagina, Stomach, etc. Dr. didn’t want to say it but Trumus people often get their anus destroyed. Once infections and bleeding in the anal canal persists, it can turn into cancer. Treat the Kooko, treat the constipation and report immediately if you see blood in faeces.

The key issue is early detection .Colorectal cancer does not hide. The most common presentation is rectal bleeding which most people will wrongly ascribe it a benign condition like hemorrhoids ( piles) called koko in the Akan language .It is important to note that a colon cancer can co exit with the so called koko. The way to diagnose is to have a look into the colon --a procedure called a colonoscopy . Every person above the age of 40 years with a rectal bleeding should have a colonoscopy done which unfortunately is not available in most regional hospitals in Ghana .This is where our health experts should fight to get the these available to the population.
Prevention like the prof said is the key and in addition to the factors stated by Prof , every one at 50 should have a colonoscopy and then every 10 years thereafter .Other lesion that can also cause rectal bleeding are polyps in the colon some of which may become cancerous eventually .They can be snapped at colonoscopy if found and then your are cured. .

The most significant cause is the early enema and hot substances we introduce to infants immediately after birth and as they grow up to induce passing of stool popularly known locally as ( kaka dro and Bontua- mixture of herbal and spices) these substances irritate the colon, dilate blood vessels, bruising and bleeding.
These irritants, bruising and swelling bleeds and becomes infected hence cancer.
Even though diet, exercise, lifestyle, drugs are secondary causes we have to health educate our household of our primary practices
