Legalise sperm donation - Expert

A reproductive health expert, Dr. Ernest Kwarko is calling for a law to regulate sperm donation.

The donation of sperm is gaining popularity with some cashing in on the new trade.

The Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection is proposing a national dialogue on the indiscriminate selling of human sperms and eggs.

Dr Kwarko told XYZ news some unqualified health personnel and centers have taken advantage of the absence of regulation to provide services for sperm transfer.

He said this poses a serious reproductive threat to the country.

“It is a very fertile industry,” he admitted “and as such it is easily subjected to abuse by both its donors and buyers.”

He said sperm donation, if not properly and legally monitored could contribute significantly to the spread of sexually transmitted diseases
