Construction of KATH MBU is ‘a dream come true’ - Osei Mensah

Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah has commended Multimedia Group Limited and all those who contributed to the construction of the Mother and Baby Unit at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for their timely effort.

The Minister said, it is a dream come true to see the garden city develop and create good quality healthcare for residents.

A documentary on how expectant mothers and babies struggled at the referral health centre for medication among others was aired on Multimedia Group’s platforms; JoyNews TV, Joy FM, Adom TV, Adom FM, Asempa FM.

The story caught the attention of the public and led to the “Save a child, save a mother, campaign”, an initiative by the Rebecca Akufo-Addo Foundation and The Multimedia Group to solicit for fund to build an MBU meant to minimise and hopefully end, the heart-breaking story of deaths at child birth at the KATH.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mr. Mensah said the facility belongs to the entire nation and not for Kumasi alone.

He said the edifice must be well maintained so it can last long and serve the purpose it was built for.

The facility is expected to reduce maternal mortality rate in the region and beyond by 60%.

The new KATH MBU meets international standards of healthcare delivery. It will also realise 56 percent energy saving and 33 percent water saving as well.
