The Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC), in collaboration with the Osu Traditional Council, has organised health walk and free screening for the residents of Osu as part of the Osu Homowo festivities.

Mr Kester Boateng Agyekum, Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Director of GAC said the body provided the opportunity for the people to know their health status.

He said the event also encouraged the residents not to wait for long periods before checking their health status, which sometimes lead to the aggravation of their problems, adding that; “prevention is better than cure”.

Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI, the Paramount Chief of Osu, expressed gratitude to the GAC for supporting the people of Osu with the screening exercise.

He appealed to the Commission to organise such health services in every three months for the residents to curb illnesses.

The Paramount Chief called on the people to attach great importance to their lives and to take advantage of the screening programme.

The residents were screened of hypertension, tuberculosis, cervical and breast cancers, body mass index and general illnesses.
