Veteran Ghanaian musician Mzbel has addressed the backlash she received following comments she made about Stonebwoy during a recent interview.
In a lengthy Facebook video on June 5, 2026, the singer expressed disappointment over what she described as attempts by some individuals within the music industry to attack her for expressing a personal opinion.
According to Mzbel, she was asked during an interview to choose between several artistes, including Adina and Gyakie, as well as Samini and R2Bees. She noted that her choices in those instances did not attract criticism from the artistes' camps.
However, she claimed the reaction was different when she chose Shatta Wale over Stonebwoy.
Mzbel alleged that several industry personalities privately contacted her to reprimand her over the choice, adding that she was surprised the criticism came from people within the industry rather than fans.
"I would have ignored it if it were fans, but actual industry personalities came to my DMs to scold me like I was a child," she wrote.
Here is why Mzbel believes Stonebwoy is a bitter person
Explaining her position, Mzbel stressed that she did not insult Stonebwoy and acknowledged that the two were once on good terms before naturally growing apart as their careers evolved.
She said her disappointment stemmed from an incident involving an article that listed pioneers of Ghana's hiplife genre.
According to her, she was excited to see her name included and intended to celebrate the recognition until Stonebwoy publicly questioned the article and called for corrections.
"I was happy, I was going to celebrate. I had taken screenshots and was about to post. Then I saw that Stonebwoy had tweeted that the writer of the article did not involve him and that the needful should be done.
"His post had completely overshadowed the whole celebration and that was what I was disappointed about," she explained.
According to her, that experience informed some of the comments she later made about him.
The singer also maintained that she would not tolerate what she considers disrespect from industry figures, adding that some of those who criticized her were not on the same professional level as her.
