Here is why Mzbel believes Stonebwoy is a bitter person

Hiplife veteran Mzbel has opened up about her fallout with Afro-dancehall artiste Stonebwoy, saying his actions over the years have made him appear bitter in her view.

In an interview with Zionfelix aired on June 4, 2026, the ‘16 Years’ hitmaker said she and Stonebwoy were once friends but claimed the dancehall musician cut ties with her as his career began to rise.

She also alleged that he unfollowed her across all social media platforms.

“Stonebwoy used to be my friend, but as his brand started growing, he cut me off and unfollowed me on all social media platforms,” Mzbel said.

According to her, while she initially felt hurt by the situation, she eventually came to terms with it.

However, she said she was more affected by another incident linked to a 2024 article written by Nana Kojo Mula for the Grammys titled “10 Artists Essential to Ghanaian Hiplife: Reggie Rockstone, Sarkodie, Mzbel & More.”

She explained that Stonebwoy reacted to the post by pointing out that his name was missing from the article celebrating Hiplife and urged the Recording Academy to “do due diligence before they publish half-dozen articles aiming to capture the true image of the state of the Ghanaian sound.”

Mzbel said Stonebwoy’s reaction came across as dismissive of the artistes featured in the list, including herself.

She added that instead of allowing those recognised in the Hiplife-focused article to celebrate the moment, his comments shifted attention away from them.

“That was painful, but what hurt me the most was what happened when the Grammy article, ‘10 Artists Essential to Ghanaian Hiplife: Reggie Rockstone, Sarkodie, Mzbel & More’, was published. Instead of allowing the artistes featured in the article, including myself, to enjoy and celebrate the recognition, he made tweets and comments that shifted the attention away from us,” Mzbel said.

She further noted that the piece was specifically about Hiplife, a genre she believes Stonebwoy is not primarily associated with.

“What made it even more surprising was that the article was specifically about Hiplife, and Stonebwoy is not generally known as a Hiplife artiste,” she stated.

Mzbel added that Stonebwoy has several achievements to his name but said she was surprised by what she described as an unnecessary reaction to a list in which he was not included.

She expressed disappointment, saying it contributed to her perception that he was bitter, especially at a time when she felt she was beginning to regain recognition after years away from the spotlight.

He has always been included and celebrated in many conversations and achievements within the industry, so I was surprised that this was the one moment he seemingly couldn't let go and allow others to enjoy.
