Webkid denied bail again, faces two new charges

Social media user Webkid has been denied bail for the second time and now faces six criminal counts after prosecutors withdrew his original charge sheet and filed a fresh one.

His lawyer, Moses Kojo Akorful, made the disclosure on Asempa FM on May 25, 2026, describing the act as a systematic denial of due process for his client, who has now been in custody for close to a month.

Webkid, real name Abdul Gafaru Sani, was arrested following a defamation and publication of false news complaint filed by dancehall musician Stonebwoy.
He was denied bail at his first court appearance and remanded into custody for two weeks.

"On the tenth of May, we went to court, where I explained to the Judge that my client had been picked on the 7th. He wasn't granted bail despite the 48-hour rule being breached. In the superior wisdom of the court, he was rather remanded for two weeks," Akorful said.

The lawyer said he subsequently prepared and filed a bail application, ensuring the Attorney General was duly served, and anticipated the court would move on it. What happened next blindsided him entirely.

"It wasn't until Friday that I heard that the Republic had withdrawn the earlier charge on which I had filed the bail application. So even before we got to court, the bail application had been rendered moot," he said.

A fresh charge sheet contained two additional counts on top of the existing charges, bringing the total number of counts against Webkid to six. Akorful says he was left unable to make any argument in court because the charge sheet on which he had prepared his defence no longer existed.

"I wasn't able to make any argument in court because the charge sheet on which I had prepared my defence had been withdrawn," he said.

Webkid has now been remanded for a further two weeks.

According to his lawyer, such actions constitute an abuse of the legal system and can be used against anybody.

"This guy has been in custody for almost a month. So even before the accused can get the opportunity to say anything in his defence, more accusations are being brought and he is being remanded again," Akorful said.
