The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has lashed out at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over its decision to petition the Moroccan ambassador in Ghana over alleged political persecution of its members.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV on May 20, 2026, the veteran journalist described the move as embarrassing.
He expressed concern that members of the NPP presented a petition to the Moroccan ambassador, who also serves as the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Ghana.

He questioned the rationale behind the move, arguing that it was inappropriate to seek intervention from a foreign diplomatic mission on internal political and human rights concerns.
“I feel so embarrassed. You want to compare Ghana's human rights record to the human rights record of Morocco? What's wrong with you? Unbelievable, their statistics are so bad,” he noted.
Pratt further said human rights groups such as Amnesty International have documented concerns regarding human rights issues in Morocco, particularly in relation to Western Sahara.
“Check all of those reports. Check what Morocco is doing in Western Sahara.
“And so, how many demonstrations have not been cracked down on? I spent some time in Tindouf, in the refugee camp in Tindouf, and they tell horrendous stories of human rights abuse,” Pratt stated.

The NPP has petitioned the diplomatic community in Ghana over what it describes as growing political persecution and suppression of dissent under the administration of President John Dramani Mahama.
The petition was presented to members of the Diplomatic Corps in Accra and received by the Moroccan Ambassador to Ghana, Imane Ouaadil, who is Dean of the Diplomatic Corps.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong and Minority Leader in Parliament Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the party alleged that state institutions were being used to target political opponents, journalists, activists, and social media commentators.
According to the party, opposition communicators, journalists, activists, and social media users are increasingly being arrested, detained, or prosecuted for expressing critical views about government officials and state institutions.
