Root-tracing has a total different meaning: it is where people trace their origin without any surviving relatives or immediate links.
For example :Black-Jamaican whose great fore-parents were shipped from West Africa some 400 years ago may be said to have traced their roots, if they used criteria like name-distortions, stories from their parents, grand-parents, get information from citizen registry offices and finally locate where their ancestors originited from.
In a practical example, I'll cite the Maroons of Jamaica, who still use broken-Twi (Patois) and terms like aben, odroben, bese, nyakopong. They know the had originated from Kromantse (Cromantine was the port where the slaves were shippid from). Their capital cities are Moore (Moree) and Accompong (distorted from Akropong). Most popular amongst them were Cudjoe (Kojo), Nanny (Nana) and Quao (Kwaw).
Some of Jamaican Maroons have TRACED their roots to be Ghanaians and Twi speaking. Many are now living in Ghana, namely in Kokrobite - Accra.
So visiting familiy members after 30+ years sojourn elsehwere is not returing to 'roots'.
