Allowing the Prez to run unopposed is against the spirit with which the constitution was framed. The manner in which politicians come by money to run for President is sometimes disturbing; but even if this is the motive for this call then I am sure the President's hands might be already tied.

The President shall act on the advice of the Council of State means the President is barred from the nomination, vetting and selection process. Those who framed the Constitution were keenly aware of the impropriety inherent in allowing the President, a political player, to play a critical role in selecting the political referee. Nevertheless, out of deference for the office of the President, the framers allowed him, as the Chief Executive Officer, the honour of “appointing” the candidate selected by the Council of State. In this case, all the President is required to do is to issue the appointment letter under the Presidential seal but no more.

The proposals put forward by IEA for constitutional reforms are the best possible way of strengthening our democracy. Anybody criticizing or unwilling to accept them must have some self-serving agendas that are not in the interest of Ghana and its development. Our weak institutions can easily produce a "constitutional dictatorship" difficult to get rid of.

Those who have genuine alternative ideas and views regarding the proposals should come out clean and tell Ghanaians what they have, and not hide behind to sabotage their adoption. These proposals in our view could reduce partisan politics and strengthen democracy and rule of law in our country if adopted. On the other hand, if we dare reject them or drag our feet, we will continue to grope in darkness with disastrous consequences.

Some of this cleaners have homes the teachers,the lawyers,the engineers are renting in Ghana.

Mr. Mahama is exactly one of the visionless African leaders that have always been accused of misplacing their priorities and bad governance. Does the NDC government think, despite the massive corruption, they can borrow recklessly and spend their way foolishly into another mandate in 2016, when the nation is over burdened with HIPC and workers wallowing in hunger and over taxed?

Governance under the NDC government is all about deceit and 'opium of the people'. They enjoy everything under the sun but ask us to wait for our basic needs in heaven, and as they ask us to tighten our belts for future betterment, they're loosening theirs for immediate consumption. They didn't even respect our intelligence when they asked us to wait for a paradise in three years. The truth is that, everything they promise is a mirage and we will never find comfort under them because; they are con-men with con plans.

You are too funny. cleaning is an occupation, or a job, but it is definitely not a profession. Profession is something you go to school for or train for as a career. If you leave one company and go to the next your experience from previous works continues and contributes to your position and even salary at the new place. is that how cleaning job works? Tweaa. Cleaning dier it is for illegal immigrants, migrants, people with no credible or verifiable job skills, hustlers, and wahala people who have no other options, but trying to make some living.

Don't get me wrong, it is not bad to be a cleaner. I myself did cleaning oyibo houses when I was in school. It gave me many opportunities and enabled me to eat, pay rent and fill my gas tank. I also shipped some of their old and unwanted items to Ghana for doctors, lawyers and pharmacists to buy and use.

But as for cleaning dier, it is not a profession.

What should be the minimum requirement when recruiting lecturers into a tertiary institution? Is it a masters degree or a PhD with a course in education??

Professors in tertiary institutions must read GES directives. There are many important and useful GES directives which would help them.

GES banned all forms of corporal punishment in Educational institutions but there are reports that some tertiary institutions are still carrying out this practice. Asking students to kneel down and so on.

Lecturers in tertiary institutions must recognize the fact that students in these institution are adults. Some students are marriend and some are business executives.

Nothing the EC will do will satisfy the Elephant Party except they win. The same EC that Nana Addo did not trust conducted their primaries in Kumasi recently. Because Nana won, he was full of praises for the good job EC did.

Any election that NPP loses is either rigged or a stolen verdict. Let Ghana appoint Jesus Christ as our EC and NPP will still have problems with the elections once they fail to win.

Bob McDonnell sentenced to two years in prison
The former governor called himself as "heartbroken and humbled man"
• US ex-governor guilty of corruption
Former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell has been sentenced to two years in prison for public corruption. Mr. McDonnell, 60, was convicted on 11 charges in September, including wire fraud and receiving property based on his official duties. Prosecutors had recommended a prison sentence of 10 years while his defence asked the judge for community service. The six-week trial exposed the McDonnell family's strained marriage and shaky finances. His wife, Maureen, was also found guilty in September of eight charges. She will be sentenced in February. The couple accepted $165,000 in gifts and loans, including a Rolex watch, designer clothing and vacations in exchange for promoting Star Scientific, a vitamin firm, and doing favours for its chief executive, Jonnie Williams. Mr. Williams testified under immunity as the prosecution's star witness. Mrs. McDonnell had a personal affection for Mr. Williams, the court heard On Tuesday, Mr McDonnell, once a rising star of the Republican party, told the judge ahead of sentencing he was "a heartbroken and humbled man". "I allowed my life to get way out of balance," he said. But outside of court, he said he still disagreed with the verdict and his defence would be appealing his conviction. The former governor did not react when the judge handed down the sentence. Mr McDonnell must report to prison by 9 February.

Officials of the Electoral Commission should stop being stiff-necked and correct all bottlenecks found with our electoral register before the next elections. One does not need to be in the country to make sensible suggestions that will inure to the benefit of all in the long rung provided one has the peace of the country at heart.

Only parliament can amend the constitution. Thus only parliament can change the way the electoral system works. Till then it is foolish to ask the EC to use a system that is not in the constitution.
