Whether the Caribbeans in England and other parts of Europe, in the USA or Black Americans in the United States, the thinking is almost the same: They dislike, hate and disrespect Africans from the continent itself. This black on black foolishness is not racism, but rather high noon PREJUDICE.
I've studied and lived in Germany, Canada and the United States and here in the USA, we still have problems with Black Americans and here are a few observations I've made over the years about Black Americans:
1) Their (our) forefathers were enslaved by the White Man (Mr. BOBO). Mr. Bobo mistreated them, whipped them, disgraced even the adult slaves in front of children and women, thus ROBBING them of their dignity, self-esteem/respect/worth, etc.
2) After they were freed, they didn't know where to go and what to do to maintain themselves. They still FEARED Mr. Bobo and still many relied on the Whiteman for shelter, food, clothing and employment.
3) So, the combination of being disrespected over the centuries, humiliated, low self-esteem, IGNORANCE, self-hatred (from house slave vs. field slave, light skin Negro vs. dark skin Negro, straight hair vs. Nappy hair, poverty and many other slavery legacies propelled, and still propel, them to:
4) Also disrespect people who were not originally born here. It is their chance for them to SHOW that they're BETTER than you, because you weren't born here and, for them, regardless of your education, employment, resources, cars or housing, they still think "they're BETTER than you.” This satisfies their inner-self and their insecurity—that at long last we’re also better than somebody else. Here in the US, all it takes is "opening your mouth to say something", which wouldn’t come out as they speak. For the Carrebieans in England, it’s the same principle: That they’re better than the African and that makes them feel better about themselves!!
One can have a PhD or millions of dollars and still a high school dropout and unemployed can LAUGH at your accent when you speak and disrespect you, because he now knows that you're not from here. It makes them feel good about themselves after all these years under "White Supremacy rule."
Lastly, don't forget folks: we have the same "disrespectfulness in Ghana, as well as in other African countries—solely based on schools people attended, but profoundly based on ETHNICITY; Such as he's a Northerner (pepeni) and I’m an Ashanti, s/he is an Ewe (awonani), s/he from Brong or a Fanti (concert man), etc., etc., and that concept of "I AM BETTER THAN YOU" is what will destroy the World—for good!!

Africans don't respect their pain and suffering which is an essential piece of their heritage. They suffered badly for the right to be allowed to drink and use the whiteman's toilet. Many of them died for standing up for their beliefs. Many are a products of rape by slave masters. All this for a "Johnny just came" African to make their pain and suffering irrelevant. Africans deny the heritage of the North American Blacks by setting themselves above them and quite often siding with the whites against the Ameri-carib blacks. Africans have an attitude that American blacks are lazy and complain too much. But Africans forget that they are the beneficiaries of the American/Caribbean Black struggle. Those in the diaspora, who understandably feel socially and economically well off, tend to be especially vulnerable to this tendency when confronted with the reality of being black - a potent reminder which compels them to want to 'invent' a narrative they hope might obliterate links to the African continent and thereby save them any embarrassments. But here is the truth of the matter: we simply cannot afford to ignore or fight each other! We are one and the same people. Any attempt we make, individually or collectively, to mask this fact will prove cosmetic and farcical - a bit like the wolf in the children's tale who attempts to disguise his identity by slipping into sheep skin suit. I do not know in which country our authors live, but it appears our authors are not abreast with the researches going on in African Studies departments in the Diaspora.
For the is no disputing the fact that, while scholars and people of African descent in the Motherland appear to be "asleep" it is the scholars and people of African descent in the diaspora - who seem to be at the intellectual battle front- of reclaiming Africa and situating the continent in its rightful place as the Mother and craddle of Civilization.
If there has been any shunning of Africans on the mainland by those in the diaspora, it is because Africans in Africa, seem to have lost sense with "self." Foreigners have totally and utterly decimated sense of "self" that the African on the continent is a poor imitation of what the African is and ought to be.
The education of the African in Africa, totally disregards the role played by black people on the world stage. How then, in a the midst of "war," should the African on the continent be taken seriously as an ally?
